Experience the visible alchemy of making a high quality herbal tincture with
superb taste and smell within 24 hours. "Percolation is a process of extracting
the soluble constituents of an herb by the slow passage of a solvent (mainly, but
not entirely, due to the pull of gravity) through a column of dried powdered plant
packed in a special form of apparatus known as a percolator." James Green
This method is faster, easier to prepare a more highly concentrated tincture and
offers a more complete collection of soluble constituents when working with dried
plants. Learn the basics of the percolation method of tincturing in a way that you
want to go home and do it yourself!

a cold or flu, along with specific herbal therapies in case you, your family or
clients do. Easy to make and use recipes that will get you through the winter
safely.
Teachings of the Ancient Masters
on the Practice of Western Herbalism - Matt Wood
Culpeper's - "A Key to Galen's Art of Physick" (1652) teaches us how to
take a case history in the traditional, natural, and holistic manner. First
determine the tissue state (hot, cold, damp, dry, tense, relaxed), then the organ
system, then the direction or action of the disease (thin, thick, up, down, in,
out). In addition we can adopt two more methods: constitution (vata, pitta,
kapha, or thin, medium, thick), and specificity (the herb has a specific
relationship by symptom or condition).
Touch Therapies - Trish Rolls
This class will highlight the importance of the presence of touch therapies
within health care facilities. We will discuss its impact on the mind, body,
and spirit. Participants will explore various touch therapies including

various temperatures and other conditions appearing on the exterior of the body?
All of these clues give hints as to interior conditions. Learn to read the face,
nails, tongue and body to understand indications of lines, blemishes, marks and
colors. Understanding the clues of the organ/body correspondences is a
precious gift (and a curse). Indications of hot, cold, damp, dry, and wind
conditions can easily be read once you train your eyes to see. Margi shares the
knowledge learned from her teachers and clients over the past three decades.
Growing Medicinal Herbs - Karyn Sanders
This class will focus on how to create the right soils, environments and bio-regions
in ones garden and land to grow your own medicines. We will look at plant
families from a native perspective.

good reason. We'll take a deeper look at the specific indications and the
surprising and overlooked used of some of our most beloved medicinal plants. Jim
will focus on a few plants, discussing them in greater detail.
3:30 to 5:00 Strategies for Permanent Weight Loss - Ian Finch

off. We will cover two main areas: Leading a active lifestyle and eating healthy to
lose weight. We will discuss each of the 3 components of a comprehensive fitness
program which are: cardiovascular exercise, resistance exercise, and stretching.
There will be demonstrations and some group participation activities as
well. Next, we will discuss nutritional strategies that will help accelerate weight-
loss. The focus is more on how and when to eat rather than what to eat. Learn
the eating strategies that have been proven over time to help people lose weight
and keep it off.
The Making of a Flower Essence - Janell Foust
The early morning dew hanging on a plant is the truest form of flower essence. It
is the essential energy of a plant (it's soul) that works at the energy level of a
person. Flower Essences can be combined with any healing modality without side
effects. Come sit with Janell and learn how create your own flower essences. She
will take you back to the history of flower essences and how they are an essential
part of your herbal repertory.
Grow Your Business With Referrals - Sue Henry
If I could show you 3 simple techniques for growing your business, would you do
them? In this class we will discuss how to (1) network effectively at events or
activities you are already attending, (2) comfortably ask past, current, and
future clients or customers for referrals, and (3) identify and build relationships
with potential referral partners.
Nurturing Nervous Nellie - Trilby Sedlacek
An integrated holistic approach to supporting people with depression, anxiety,
nervousness, and sleep disorders. This workshop offers a natural healing program
of practical and affordable approaches to alleviate stress-related complaints
ranging from the ordinary stresses of modern life to post traumatic stress and bi-
polar disorder. While counseling is part of effective treatment, herbal formulas,
aromatherapy, flower essences, nutrition, and bodywork combine to form a holistic
healing approach from a cellular to a spiritual level. Learn the specific herbal

care. After a break we'll explore menopause with attention on prevention of
osteoporosis and depression. Throughout the sessions, the role of nutrition and
supplements is emphasized along with herbal medicines. Case histories from my

Aromatic Medicines in a Clinical Setting - Mindy Green
Aromatic plants have been used throughout history for healing, pharmacy, cosmetic
care, spiritual practices and ritual ceremonies. Essential oils are being used in
medical facilities around the world and modern science confirms that the chemical
constituents found in essential oils have tremendous therapeutic value. The biological
activity of these components provide for numerous applications as medical adjuncts in
complementary and palliative care. Learn about the various applications and
implications of these functional fragrances in wide ranging therapies from primary
medicines to spa treatments and comfort care, and see how the rest of the world is
employing them in holistic health protocols. We will discuss the materia medica of
specific oils and will cover simple ways to incorporate them in your clinical practice
right away.
Nervous System, Brain and Emotions - Phyllis D Light
Understanding the mind/body connection and the effect of our emotions on health is
an important aspect of healing. Psycho-spiritual and social issues such as loss of
loved ones, loneliness, constrained movement, and lack of social interaction, divorce,
death of partners, physical disability affect our health and lead to disability or
chronic disease. Join Phyllis as she discusses the mind/body connection and herbs
that help bring balance in those situations.
8:15 to 9:45 Art of Questioning in a Consultation - Margi Flint
Observe the process of Margi Flint asking the written, and the unwritten questions
during Herbal Consultation. Margi learned by "sitting at the knee of the master",
David Winston, Matthew Wood, Phyllis D Light, and William LeSassier, among
others, were her mentors. The gifts of these teachers and her life experience have
blended to create a fun, sincere, informative shoot-from-the-hip approach to case-
taking.
Foundational Herbcraft - jim mcdonald
The energetic foundations of western herbalism aren't clearly laid out, as
in Ayurveda or Traditional Chinese Medicine, but do exist and are clearly implied
in the terms we use to describe the properties and actions of herbs. We'll look more
deeply at bitters, astringents, demulcents, relaxants, and other primary actions to
discover how they reveal the deeper virtues of herbs, and tell us far more of their
nature than terms like "anti-inflammatory" or "antibacterial" could every convey.
Herbs for Common Digestive Disease - Nicholas Schnell
Learn simple herbal solutions and dietary changes to help heal a variety of digestive
disorders. Acid reflux, bloating, ulcers, IBS, constipation, malabsorbtion,
Crohns, colitis, hemorrhoids and much more will be covered. Emphasis is on
understanding the foundational concepts of western herbalism and seeing patients
holistically.
Trama Improv - Bonnie L Kreckow
Did you know that herbs reverse the impact of trama almost as fast as it happens.
With trama western medicine and herbal medicine can be very effective in healing
the body with a much rapid rate of recorvery than just using western medicine alone.
Let's go outside and do some improvisations, we'll wrap a broken collar bone,
poultice a sprained ankle, compress smashed fingers, treat a burn, and heal a
concussion. Nature will supply us with the herbs, I'll bring the bandages.
10:00 to 11:30 Five Element Theory - Brigitte Mars
This ancient system of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water can give great insight
in living in harmony with the seasons as well as guidance in diagnostics when
working with clients. Explore how this beautiful theory can improve your herbal
practice and enhance your own life.
Herbs 101: the basics - Victoria Fortner
In this class you will learn some of the basic forms and applications of herbal
medicine: harvesting, drying, therapies, (tinctures, ointment, compresses, teas, etc.)
properties, formulation, and easy kitchen recipes.
Digestion and Herbal Medicine - Althea Northage-Orr
We will begin with a brief overview of the Digestive system and discuss the current
nutritional theories vis a vis Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Celiac's and other
digestive diseases. We'll also look (briefly) at the mainstream drugs and
recommendations for digestive illnesses. We will then focus on herbal
approaches and their accompanying dietary choices for safe and effective treatment
of digestive disorders. One of the important aspects of this class is to help give a
rationale for using complementary medicine for these disorders rather than the
aggressive (and often damaging) mainstream treatments.
Dream Big! Go Do! - Sue Henry
We all dream of success and making a difference in the lives of others. But for many,
these hopes and dreams are locked inside instead of being realized. Why? Because of
the negative, self-defeating thoughts in our heads! If you would like to end self-
sabotage and move into the life you dream of and deserve, this class is for you! Sue
will share her story and teach you how the system she used to get out of her own way,
once and for all. Come and learn how to change from the "inside-out" into your true
potential!
11:45 to 12:45 Lunch
1:00 to 2:30 Walking in Different Worlds - Karyn Sanders
This class will look at the differences illness and medicine is perceived and also
treated in western culture and Native American culture (specifically southwest native
culture). We will go over just what creates illness, how the body is seen, what are
some of the different treatment protocols, etc.
Cardiovascular Health - Amanda McQuade Crawford
The medical push for statin drugs in a war against cholesterol has not helped people
avoid heart disease as much as changes in how we eat, sleep, and live our lives. This
class covers pros and cons about drugs that target inflammatory markers such as C
reactive protein, while providing natural protocols for common concerns from high
blood pressure to varicose veins.
The Six Tissue States, the "Forgotten - Matt Wood
Energetics of Western Herbalism"
Built into our system of herbalism is a forgotten system of energetics based on the
tissue state (excited, depressed, atrophic, stagnant, tense, relaxed). This system
unites the teachings of the ancient Greeks, who had four qualities, (hot, cold,
dry, damp) and two tissue states (tense, relaxed), with modern concepts of tissue
tone to produce a tremendously insightful approach to Western herbal practice.
The Need to Question Authority in Today's - David Hoffmann
Herb World
Do we need double maceration? Are glycerites the way to go? Do we all need
colonics - are we having fun yet? Everyone involved in the herb world is exposed
to claims and counterclaims, information and misinformation, all compounded by
overlapping hidden agendas. This class will look at the relevance of critical
thinking and the evaluation of information so that both practitioner and
consumer will have more of a handle on decision making, whether the decision
concerns protocol development or which product to buy.
Herbal and Nutritional Programs for Thyroid Gland - Trilby Sedlacek
Disfunctions; Living with hypothroidism, hyperthroid,
and auto immune thyroid
Hypothyroidism represents at least 15% of our population; some sources suggest
that 30% would be more accurate. Unfortunately, many in this category,
especially women near the age of menopause, fall into the “subclinical” group,
just outside the laboratory range of official diagnosis. Although they experience
classic symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, hair loss and much more, these
individuals are left without solutions or even the relief of a diagnosis.
Nutritional specifics, herbal support and formulas will create a foundational
health program for individuals with various types of thyroid dysfunction.
Case study presentations maybe included.
